Everybody envy’s Rapunzel for her wonderful hair. Desiring for a hair like Rapunzel is little greedy. But to have a decent volume of hair free of damage and grey hairs is not too much to ask far. There are many things out of our control like genetics, water, tension and stress, but the most important one a balanced healthy diet for a good hair growth is well within our reach. You don’t have to spend lavishly to buy hair potion serums, pop a vitamin pill or undergo medication and get broke out. Things in your kitchen can make wonders for you.

There are several reasons for hair loss which includes deficiency of nutrients, pollution, water, childbirth, medication, stress, thyroid, scalp infections etc. in many cases it could be either one of the above or a combination of two or more. Whatever is the reason, one thing that we can definitely fall back and give a try blind folded is following a healthy nutrition. In the busy schedule and fast forward life that we live, we give less importance to the nutrition.

Though hair seems to be dead and dry, the root will have little life and when it is supplied with ample nutrients then there is every reason that your hair grows with a shine and full of life. Food that is rich in iron, vitamin and protein will help to supply those nutrients to the root of the hair.

Vitamin Regime

Vitamin A – for a healthy and shiny hair vitamin A is necessary. Foods that are rich in Vitamin A are carrot, milk, spinach, apricot.

Vitamin B7 – this is also called as biotin which is the primary vitamin that supports hair growth. When one takes sufficient amount of biotin, it will result in thickness and volume of hair, increase in hair growth. Food in which Biotin is in abundance is Banana, walnut, Almond, egg and cauliflower.

Vitamin E – this vitamin plays a prominent role in fighting the dryness and frizzy hair issues. It softens the hair through secretion of an oily substance called sebum near the hair follicle. Blood circulation is improved resulting in the scalp and root of the hair supplied with all nutrients. Food rich in vitamin E are almond, milk, fish, peanut etc. sunflower seeds or flax seeds are known to be the riches source of vitamin E.

Vitamin C – this vitamin is renowned for its anti ageing property in general.  With respect to the hair regimen it prevents premature grey hair. Citrus fruits like lemon, orange, strawberries, raspberries are best to keep you young.

Vitamin B12 – it is a part of vitamin B family which is a key in absorbing irons to the body which is vital for hair growth. Egg, milk, yogurt have vitamin B12 profoundly.

Protein Regime

Proteins play a very important role in maintaining the appropriate growth cycles. There are three stages of hair growth. They are -growing stage, resting stage and falling stage. Source of rich protein is meat and fish which are animal food. Hence veggies find it difficult to balance. In cycle of hair growth the growing stage gets skipped and it straight jumps to resting stage, resulting in few new hairs growing and after the resting stage, a bunch of hair falling apart. There is always an alternate. Vegetarian food rich in protein are sprouts, milk, dairy products etc.

Iron Regime

In case of you suffering from severe hair fall and damage and breaking of hair, then it is sure that you suffer from iron deficiency. The reason being, iron carries oxygen to the hair roots, and when the body is short of iron, it directly impacts in hair fall and hair loss. For a healthy blood circulation try adding dry fruits, leafy vegetables, meat, honey which are rich sources of iron.

Other important nutrients

A few other minerals like zinc, silica and sulfur are also essential in hair growth. Poultry products are good source of these minerals. Iodine is equally important to keep hair fall in control. Deficiency of iodine results in thyroid problem. Sea food, egg, potatoes, garlic has wealth of iodine. Omega 3 fatty acids are also important for good hair growth and sea food have loads of omega 3 fatty acids.

If you have incorporated all the above in your diet, mind you, you can see drastic results with a couple of months. Drinking sufficient amount of water, flushes the toxins out of the body and its good for overall well being.
